Season 2019 – 2020 / Temporada 2019

The Rotary year of 2019-2020 "Rotary Connects the World" began in July for Club Rotario Cabo de Este. A new leadership team with huge dreams and big shoes to fill set out to make this year the best ever. Club projects included but were not limited to: three global grants, several club visits, Taste of East Cape, SpringFest Auction,15 year anniversary celebration, health screenings, Carnaval, pancake breakfast, assisting Interact with the Christmas toy collection, working on the Buena Vista playgrounds, and an Interact summer visit to the mainland. These projects were in progress all the way through February and everything was on target for completion by April when the majority of our members headed north for the summer. But in the middle of March the world was turned upside down with the COVID-19 virus, it's changed everyone's lives and even the way we gather. Rotary was no exception. We dropped everything and focused on this terrible virus. Food Banks, PPE, and Zoom meetings became the norm.

As we are just a few weeks away from Josefina and her leadership team taking over for the 2020-2021 year, I wanted to recognize all Rotary members and their contributions to the success of the club IN 2019-2020.

Rotarian of the Year: Chris Geyer -- What can I say, he's always been there when needed 24/7 365 days a year, a true Rotarian who is an example to us all.

Rotarian's of the month: Steve and Priscilla: Thanks for the hours and hours of your constant communications with the club keeping us all informed.

Bob: Thanks for stepping up and leading the formation of the La Ribera Food Bank.

Alma: Thanks for taking the lead of the Interact club, we are all proud of their leadership.

Ian: Thanks for taking the lead on the Taste, Grants, and various other community projects.

Elaine: Thanks for leading the Carnaval effort, the best one ever.

El año Rotario de 2019-2020 “Rotario conecta al Mundo” inició en Julio para en Club Rotario de Cabo del Este. Un nuevo equipo de líderes con grandes sueños y zapatos muy grandes por llenar, se propusieron hacer de este año el mejor de todos los tiempos. Los proyectos incluidos, pero no los únicos eran: 3 subsidios globales, muchas visitas al club, el Sabor de East Cape, la subasta de Primavera, la celebración del 15 Aniversario, exámenes de salud, el Carnaval, Hotcakes de Desayuno, ayudar al Club Interact en la colecta de juguetes de Navidad, las áreas de juego de Buenavista, y una visita del Club Interact al interior de la república en el Verano.

Todos estos programas estaban en progreso por Febrero y todo iba en camino a completarse en por Abril, cuando la mayoría de nuestros miembros se regresaban al Norte para pasar el Verano. Pero a mitad Marzo el mundo se puso de cabeza con la nueva enfermedad, el COVID-19, ahora la vida de todos ha cambiado, incluso ha cambiado la manera en la que convivimos. El Club Rotario no fue la excepción. Dejamos todo y nos enfocamos en este terrible virus. Bancos de Comida, Equipos de Protección Personal, y las videoconferencias en Zoom se convirtieron en lo habitual.

Y ahora que estamos a sólo unas semanas de que Josefina y su nuevo equipo de líderes se hagan cargo del año 2020 – 2021, quiero reconocer a todos los Miembros y a sus contribuciones al éxito del Club en 2019-2020.

Rotario del año: Chris Geyer -- ¿qué puedo decir?, Siempre está cuando se necesita 24/7 los 365 días del año, un verdadero Rotario, quien es un ejemplo para todos nosotros.

Rotarios del mes: Steve y Priscilla: Gracias por las horas y horas de constante comunicación con el Club, manteniéndonos a todos informados.

Bob: Gracias por ponerte de pie y liderar la creación del banco de comida de La Ribera.

Alma: Gracias por hacerte cargo del liderazgo del Club Interact, todos estamos muy orgullosos de su liderazgo.

Ian: Gracias por tomar el liderazgo El Sabor, los Subsidios y todos los otros proyectos comunitarios.

Elaine: Gracias por todo tu esfuerzo liderando el Carnaval, hasta ahora el mejor de todos.
