Rotary of Los Barriles hosted thirteen teenagers and five advisors from Madera, CA, last week. Both the kids and adults immediately pitched in to work on several of our projects. The enthusiasm of the group, particularly of the teenagers from the Madera Rotary Interact Club, was truly inspiring. Projects like painting the girls’ albergue in San Antonio, creating new recycling receptacles for Los Barriles, and distributing healthful water filtration systems to small ranchos in the hills around San Bartolo, were all accomplished ahead of schedule with lots of laughter and happy faces. True to their name, the Madera Interact club spent five days interacting personally with their local peers and the people of our region. Both groups grew in ways that will carry far beyond a couple of coats of paint and water filters. Cultures met and didn’t clash, but clasped hands in Rotary moments too numerous to number.
